Where are the best places to watch Red, White and Boom 2022? Here are 7 suggestions

Red, White & Boom is going to take over the Downtown area on July 1.

There will be road closures, a parade shutting down multiple streets and a mass of people trying to get the best shot of the fireworks. But there's more than one good area from which to watch the display.

Red, White & Boom 2022: Everything you need to know

Whether you like being right in the middle of the action, in a baseball park or in one of Columbus' city parks, we've compiled seven places to consider watching the Red, White & Boom fireworks this weekend.

For suggestions on where some of the top spots are to watch the display, we scoured the Red, White & Boom website and also consulted the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department and Metro Parks.

Huntington Park

Address: 330 Huntington Park Lane

Want to avoid the massive crowds and have a guaranteed seat to sit down and watch the fireworks? Huntington Park might be the best place for you.

You'll still have to find parking, but the home of the Columbus Clippers will host what's called Ballpark Boom on July 1. It begins at 5:30 p.m. and will feature inflatables, live music — the Gas Pump Jockeys will play. Be warned that there are new condos being built near the park, but if those hide the view, the fireworks will be shown on the video board.

Tickets for the event cost $10 and can be purchased at www.milb.com/columbus/events/ballpark-boom. 

Bicentennial Park

Address: 233 Civic Center Drive, Downtown

Bicentennial Park is just a short, half-mile walk from Genoa Park, where the fireworks will be launched.

Take note you'll have to arrive early to get your desired spot inside Bicentennial Park, but if you don't mind the crowds, this is a great spot to watch the fireworks. It's one of the prime spots, right along with Long Street, Spring Street, Marconi Boulevard, Washington Boulevard and Civic Center Drive. These areas are first-come, first-served.

Goodale Park

Address: 120 W. Goodale St., Victorian Village

About 2.5 miles north of Genoa Park, Goodale Park offers a good view of the fireworks.

Take your own chair and blanket, get there early. And ideally, you'll be a bit outside of the Downtown traffic. Be aware, however, that parking is extremely limited, so you might want to take the bus.

Dodge Park

Address: 667 Sullivant Ave., near Downtown

Another good city park location, Dodge Park is less than a mile away from the launch site, but is in a good position right on the river for the fireworks.

With its close proximity to the fireworks, there will likely be a crowd. But it also should provide a good location for the highly-anticipated fireworks display.

Berliner Sports Park

Address: 325 Greenlawn Ave., South Side near Downtown

One of the top options, outside of Downtown, is Berliner Sports Park. 

Look on the Red, White & Boom website and you'll see this as one of the top options. About two miles south of the launch site, those who go to Berliner Sports Park will have a great view of the display.

Scioto Audubon Metro Park

Address: 400 W Whittier St , near Downtown

Located south of Genoa Park, the Scioto Audubon Metro Park is another good place to watch the fireworks.

Expect a crowd, especially because it is just over a mile from the launch site, but is prime real estate for those who don't want to be right in the thick of things. It provides a nice vantage point for the fireworks. Just take a chair, look north toward the river and you'll catch the fireworks without too much hassle.

The Metro Parks will have inflatables for children around 4 p.m. and a shuttle that will take you around the 120-acre park at the same time, according to Jill Snyder from Columbus Metro Parks.

Rhodes Park

Address: 1910 W. Broad St.

Want a location completely outside the downtown traffic and crowds? Rhodes is a good option.

Located three miles west of the launch site, and past Franklinton, Rhodes Park offers a good view of the fireworks downtown with less of the hubbub. The park contains ball fields, a quarter-mile walking and jogging track, picnic tables and parking.
