The host joked that a dog could take his place.

Pat Sajak might be packing up and making his way out the door.

The Wheel of Fortune host, 76, joked on Monday night's episode that he was looking for his next potential successor, and he's even opening up the playing field to... dogs?

The game show's Instagram account posted a clip from the Feb. 6 episode where Sajak jokingly said a dog could potentially take over his hosting gig.

"We have three dogs: Namath, Arthur, and Giuseppe," one contestant told Sajak.

"You're a big dog fan, you believe that dogs are," Sajak said before the contestant finished his sentence, interjecting with, "sometimes better than people, yeah."

"Well, that increased the pool for my successor. There is that," Sajak quipped.

"Now accepting host applications from dogs! 🐶 ➡️" the game show captioned the post.

Sajak has hosted the American game show since 1981, after taking over for Chuck Woolery, who hosted the show since it premiered in 1975.

This isn't the first time Sajak has mentioned his potential exit from the show. The host has been toggling with the idea of leaving his 40-year tenure for some time, even opening up about it in an interview with Entertainment Tonight last September.

During the interview, he reflected on his many years with the beloved game show, while acknowledging that the good times must come to an end eventually.

"In most television shows by this time, you would have said, 'That’s probably enough,' but this show will not die," he said, adding, "It appears I may go before the show."

"Years go by fast. We're getting near the end. It's been a long [time]. We're not gonna do this for another 40 years. The end is near," he revealed, adding, "It's an honor to have been in people's living rooms for that long. People were out there welcoming us. We're happy and proud."

There has been no official word of when Sajak will retire, and while we'll be sad to see him go, we're certainly hoping an adorable pooch will appear on the game show in the future.
