NIKE XC TWILIGHT MEET: Huge meet under the lights at Terre Haute brought together some of the best teams from across the Midwest. Championship Race top team scores: Louisiana No. 1 New Orleans Jesuit 97, No. 1 Carmel 106, Illinois 3A No. 1 Plainfield South 140, No. 2 Noblesville 175, No. 3 Zionsville 188, Ohio No. 1 Mason 190, Rock Bridge, Mo. 239, Illinois No. 2 Hinsdale Central 268, No. 4 Columbus North 386. Bloomington North was 17th (484), Bloomington South 19th (509) and Edgewood 28th (803).

SWIAC MEET: Eastern Greene picks up its first conference title since 2015, scoring just 31 points to top North Daviess (58). Linton's Peyton Smith wins (18:56.5) followed by Eastern's Lilyanna Blais (19:28.4) and Esther Crane (19:53.1). Sydney Richardson was sixth and Jaylynn Payne eighth. BLOOMINGTON NORTH 24, COLUMBUS EAST 7: North scores 24 unanswered after Olympians grab early lead. Big night for North running back Cody Mikulich: 19 carries for 100 yards and a touchdown; three catches for another 126 and a TD. Dash King tosses for 182 yards. Cougars (4-3) hold Olympians to 119 yards rushing and 78 passing. It's the first time North has held back-to-back foes to single digits since September, 2011.

SULLIVAN 52, EDGEWOOD 0: Sullivan (4-3, 1-2 WIC) opened up a 37-0 lead by halftime to kick in the running clock for the second half. Sullivan's Rowdy Adams tossed for 168 yards and three TDs and rushed for 61 yards. The Mustangs (1-6) have dropped six straight.

EASTERN GREENE 3, NORTH DAVIESS 2: T-Birds pick up 10th win of the season for the first time since 2018, with thrilling 22-25, 25-17, 22-25, 25-17, 15-11 SWIAC win.

CLAY CITY 3, LIGHTHOUSE CHRISTIAN 0: Lions (12-10) fall in three tough sets to potential sectional foe, 25-20, 25-22, 25-21. Claire Beretta had three aces and seven assists for LCA while Lizzie Billingsley had 13 digs; Jane Holdeman had three aces; Victoria Mann had four kills, Emilee Spurlock had five and Charlotte Wiser added two aces.

WEST VIGO 5, EDGEWOOD 1: Mustangs fall to 1-13, 1-7 in WIC will loss in regular season finale.

BLOOMINGTON SOUTH 0, JASPER 0: Panthers (12-1-2) sat its starters and generated just three shots. Backup keeper Aidan Smith had two saves. "I rested all of my starters tonight, but I was incredibly pleased with everyone that played," coach Corbin Calvert said. "They held their own against a very good Jasper team who had some speed up top. I would like to see more offense from that group but defensively it was beyond impressive."

BLOOMINGTON SOUTH 11, SOUTHPORT 0: No. 9 Panthers finished up regular season with a CI rout. Katharine Lacy had the hat trick while Helena Cutshall had two goals and two assists and Annalise Coyne had two goals. Seven Panthers (13-1-2) scored.

Bloomington North Sectional (at South)

BLOOMINGTON NORTH 5, EDGEWOOD 0: The Cougars (12-3) had few problems sweeping into the sectional final. The most contested matches came at 3 singles and 1 doubles. Connor Shin beat freshman Andrew Paul, 6-2, 6-4 and Casey McIntyre and Brady Murphy beat the Weisner brothers, Zeke and Dane, by the same result. Nick Shirley topped Mitch Deckard 6-0, 6-0 at 1 singles and Esteban Crespo was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Quinn Norris at 2 singles. The 2 doubles match was all North as Connor O'Guinn and Seth Force beat Danny Chandler and Carter Cheaney, 6-0, 6-0. North advanced to the finals on Thursday at 5 p.m. at South.

BLOOMINGTON SOUTH 5, MARTINSVILLE 0: South was on point. Michael Asplund, Chris Lian and Alex Busch swept their singles matches 6-0, 6-0 for the No. 9 Panthers (11-3) as did the 2 doubles team of Josh Sang and David Ciucu. Nicky Walters and Luka Jovanovic won 6-1, 6-1 at 1 doubles to set up a showdown with North on Thursday at 5 for the title.

WEST VIGO 5, EDGEWOOD 1: Mustangs (1-13, 1-7 WIC) will head into sectional on a nine-game skid.

BLOOMINGTON SOUTH 3, SOUTHPORT 2: Panthers secure second in Conference Indiana after heading into the locker room tied 1-1 at half. Jakob Orth had two goals and an assist. The Cardinals (3-9-3, 1-2-2) scored first off an own goal before Orth put away a PK to tie it. In the second half, Southport again took the lead before Orth, moved to forward and set up Landon Ridner for the tying goal with a well placed cross. With 10 minutes left, Orth broke the knot with a breakaway to goal. "Another team who was much better than their record shows," South coach Corbin Calvert said. "Southport came to compete. They put a lot of pressure on us offensively and they are very good at dribbling and moving the ball quickly. It took a while to settle into this game, but I'm proud of the guys for being down twice and coming back both times to get the win."

WEST VIGO 5, EDGEWOOD 3: The Mustangs gave one of the sectional favorites a run for its money, but West Vigo (11-4, 5-2 WIC) came up with three second half goals to pull it out after Edgewood (5-9, 2-6) led 3-2 at the break.

Boys' tennis

Bloomington North Sectional

BLOOMINGTON NORTH 5, BEDFORD NORTH LAWRENCE 0: Sophomore Krishil Patel stepped in at No. 2 doubles, joining with Seth Force to pull out a 7-6(7), 6-3 win to complete the sweep in the sectional opener. North had no problems elsewhere, getting 6-0, 6-0 wins at 1 and 3 singles from Nick Shirley and Connor Shinn, while Esteban Crespo cruised 6-0, 6-1 and Casey McIntyre and Brady Murphy finished 6-1, 6-2. North (11-3) faces Edgewood on Wednesday in the semifinals, while South takes on Martinsville.

Volleyball

COLUMBUS EAST 3, BLOOMINGTON SOUTH 0: Host Olympians take down Panthers, 25-14, 25-14, 25-12. Ellis Clark had six kills for South (6-12). Paige Washington had two aces and 10 assists and Riley Walker had 11 digs.

EDGEWOOD 3, CLOVERDALE 0: Mustangs celebrate senior night with another WIC sweep, 25-11, 25-5, 25-12. Edgewood is now 21-3 and 7-1 in the league. It is the first back-to-back 20-win seasons for Edgewood since 2012-13. Kaiden Harrington had 12 kills and seven aces for the Mustangs, while Olivia Edgeman had seven kills and two aces; Gracie Farmer had six kills, five blocks and nine aces; Adia May had 25 assists and seven digs; Alayna Flynn had nine digs and three aces and Lydia Baugh had seven digs.

BLOOMINGTON SOUTH 6, MARTINSVILLE 1: Panthers (12-1-2) jumped up 2-0 by halftime and finished it off. Helena Cutshall scores twice while Katharine Lacy, Annalise Coyne, Keira Robinson and Izzy Sweet with the goals for South. It's the Panthers' fourth shutout in their last five games.

Boys' soccer

CENTER GROVE 5, BLOOMINGTON NORTH 3: The Trojans (7-5-3) won their third straight in a preview of next week's sectional meeting between the two squads. And the rematch should be something after a crazy ending that saw three goals scored in the final five minutes. Match was tied 1-1 at halftime, tied at 2 with 30 minutes left after a North goal and again at 3 with five minutes remaining after the Cougars (5-9-2) came up clutch again. But Center Grove scored again just a minute later (just like it had after North tied it 2-2) off a free kick, to go up 4-3 and added an insurance tally right before the horn. North is just 1-6-1 in its last eight.

Monday, Sept. 26

Volleyball

EASTERN GREENE 3, BEDFORD NORTH LAWRENCE 2: T-Birds (9-12) rally to knock off 4A Stars in a marathon match, 25-20, 21-25, 21-25, 25-22, 15-12. Eastern will be seeking its first season with 10 or more wins since 2018 when it travels to North Daviess on Thursday.

EDGEWOOD 3, BEDFORD NORTH LAWRENCE 2: Mustangs start week with their eighth win of the season.

Girls' soccer

EDGEWOOD 5, BEDFORD NORTH LAWRENCE 0: Mustangs (5-8) post their fifth shutout of the season.

BLOOMINGTON NORTH 2, MOORESVILLE 1: All the scoring came in the second half and the Cougars (6-7) got goals from Bella Winkler, amazingly enough on a direct off the second half kickoff, and Daphne Wright in the 63rd minute to break a 1-1 tie and grab the win. Rachel Campbell had 10 saves.

LIGHTHOUSE CHRISTIAN 5, EDGEWOOD 0: Lighthouse Christian (5-4) goes up 2-0 by halftime and puts game away in second half as Mustangs (1-13) struggle to find the back of the net again.

BLOOMINGTON SOUTH 1, COLUMBUS EAST 0: Elliot Thurston had the game's only goal in the second half off an assist from Sebastian Brena-Ochoa as the No. 9 Panthers (11-1-2) escaped. Bryce Taylor completed the shutout of the Olympians (2-8-4).
