In Catholic and other Christian traditions, the six weeks between Ash Wednesday and Easter Sunday are considered a time of reflection, atonement and self-restraint. As part of this, many observant abstain from eating meat on Fridays during that time.

When does Lent start?

In 2022, Lent begins Wednesday, March 2. It lasts 40 days, ending Thursday, April 4.
