Christmas is just a couple weeks away and the events are piling up like presents under the tree. If you feel like venturing out, I’ll be highlighting attractions, activities, and festivals right here, every week. From local music and shows to options for those of you who don’t mind traveling a bit, there’s something for everyone. Be sure to check all activities, as cancellations can occur. The events listed are for Dec. 9 - 18.

Saturday

North Pole Outpost. Stop by the Salt Fork Lodge and Conference Center for a day of North Pole-themed activities. Every Saturday until Christmas families can visit the pro shop for cookie decorating, mailing letters to Santa, and holiday crafts for the kids. Mrs. Claus will be reading stories by the fire and participants can also do a make-and-take ornament to remember the day. The cost is $5 per child; lodge and cabin guests are free. Sunday

The Polar Express Train Excursion. The Dennison Railroad is once again recreating the holiday classic. Climb aboard their magical train ride. On your way to the North Pole, you will hear the story "The Polar Express" by Chris Van Allsburg, play games, sing songs, and meet some special visitors along the way. Each child will receive a silver sleigh bell from Santa's sleigh. Tickets are limited and begin at $55. To purchase tickets visit www.dennisondepot.org or call 740-922-6776. Wednesday

Santa's Reindeer. Do you want to keep it a little closer to home for the holidays? Head to the Caldwell square and give your children the chance to visit with two of Santa's very own reindeer from 5 to 7 p.m. Hot cocoa will also be available for purchase, and, rumor has it, Santa Claus ma drop by to check in on his reindeer. Dec. 16

Ethan Timm. A little pre-Christmas jam session is always enjoyable. Head down to Georgetown Vineyards to hear the vocal stylings of Ethan Timm. The acoustic guitarist and singer will perform from 5 to 8 p.m., covering classics and original pieces. For more information, call 740-435-3222. Dec. 17

Adam Calvert. Once again bringing his show to Zanesville is Adam Calvert. Head on down to The Barn with some friends and enjoy this local country star. The show is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. For more information call 740-455-2276. The Barn, 1947 Linden Avenue, Zanesville.
