Wichita Falls ISD was deeply mourning the loss of a student who died last night, according to a Facebook post Wednesday.

Ebony Redwine was an eighth-grader at Barwise Middle School, according to the post on the district's Facebook page.

She was active in the Road to College and Barwise athletics, according to the post.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family during this incredible difficult time," district officials said in the post.

Counselors will be on campus this week for students and staff members as needed, according to the post.

Sgt. Charlier Eipper, public information officer, said the Wichita Falls Police Department's Crimes Against Children detectives are investigating.

Detectives were informed of the case a day after the child died, so they are still collecting medical records and interviewing people, Eipper said.

He said he had nothing further to release Thursday afternoon.
