West Scranton native nominated for Emmy award

Jul. 12—West Scranton native Fred Tallaksen has earned another Emmy award nomination.

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences nominated Tallaksen for "Outstanding Choreography for Scripted Programming" for the routine "The Pain Killer" in the Amazon Prime series "Goliath."

The academy announced the nominations for the 74th annual Emmy awards Tuesday. The winners of Tallaksen's category will be announced during the Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremony on Sept. 10, with highlights to be shown on FXX at 8 p.m. NBC and its Peacock streaming service then will air the main Emmy ceremony live on Sept. 12.

This marks Talleksen's fourth Emmy nomination. He previously received nods for his work on "Malcolm in the Middle" and "The Real O'Neals."

This time, he faces Ryan Heffington for "Euphoria;" Christian Vincent, "The Porter;" Christopher Gattelli, "Schmigadoon!;" and Mandy Moore and Jillian Meyers, "Zoey's Extraordinary Christmas."

The son of Catherine and Frederick Tallaksen, he started his dancing career while at the University of Scranton and studied under longtime dance teacher Gail Ercoli. He later moved to New York City, worked on a "Cats" tour and directed and choreographed shows for Marywood University, among others.

Tallaksen and his sisters grew up on Rundle Street; he attended Scranton Preparatory School.

"My roots taught me that hard work and dedication are the only path to success and without the love and support of my family, friends and teachers, I don't think I would have made it," Tallaksen said in an email. "I am so incredibly humbled and honored to be nominated for my fourth Emmy Award in choreography. Wow — this is truly a dream come true, and I'm so grateful."
