West Rusk routs Harmony, now 8-0

Oct. 23—This just in: West Rusk wants you to know they are number one.

And Harmony. They want them to know it, too.

Coach Nick Harrison's Raiders remained undefeated in emphatic fashion at Harmony on Friday night, beating the hometown Eagles, 63-18 — the previously-one-loss Harmony Eagles. This one was impressive.

And the Raiders are likely to remain number one: number one in the #bEASTTexas Fabulous 15's 3A/2A/TAPPS poll.

West Rusk is now 8-0 overall, 4-0 in District 9-3A, Division II and looks to have wrapped up the district title, the second straight year to do so.

Harmony is now 6-2 overall, and 2-2 with the loss in district play.

West Rusk's offense rolled up 505 total yards, including quarterback Andon Mata adding to his touchdown pass total. He completed 10-of-14 passes for 190 yards and three touchdowns. Omarion Anthony caught four balls for 78 yards and a touchdown; Ty Harper had a 33-yard touchdown catch; and Geremiah Smith had a catch for a 54-yard score, and also had a punt return for a touchdown.

Jamal Ford ran for 167 yards and a score, and Tate Winings had 109 yards and another scsore. Carson Martin picked off a Harmony pass and returned it for a touchdown.

West Rusks hosts Grand Saline next week, and then finishes the regular season with a road trip to Quitman Nov. 5.

CORRECTION: Earlier this week, the News Herald identified Andon Mata as a senior. He's not, he's a junior. The News Herald apologizes for the error and is happy to set the record straight.
