West central Minnesota records 98 new COVID-19 cases, state reports 2 deaths and nearly 2,000 new cases in Monday update

Apr. 12—WILLMAR — There were 98 new cases of COVID-19 reported in the area in Monday's state update.

Stearns County reported the most new cases at 55. Kandiyohi County reported 15 new cases, and Meeker County reported 13.

Yellow Medicine County reported six new cases, Renville County reported four cases; Swift County and Redwood County each reported two new cases; and Pope County reported one.

Big Stone, Chippewa and Lac qui Parle counties reported no new cases.

Statewide there were two deaths and 1,994 newly reported cases overall.

That brings the state's cumulative total to 544,046.

Of the cumulative number of cases, 40,001 of them are health care workers.

There were two additional deaths attributed to COVID-19, for a current total of 6,959 deaths. Most of the deaths, 4,319, have occurred in long-term care or assisted living facilities, and 5,752 of the people who have died were 70 or older.

The information was included in the latest daily situation update from the Minnesota Department of Health, released at 11 a.m. daily. The data released are current as of 4 p.m. the day before.

Since the start of the pandemic, the number of COVID-19 cases among residents confirmed to reside in area counties and the number of deaths includes:

* Big Stone County: 554 cases; 4 deaths

* Chippewa County: 1,437 cases; 36 deaths

Kandiyohi County: 6,218 cases; 79 deaths

* Lac qui Parle County: 731 cases; 22 deaths

* Meeker County: 2,293 cases; 22 deaths

* Pope County: 993 cases; 6 deaths

* Redwood County: 1,639 cases; 35 deaths

* Renville County: 1,685 cases; 43 deaths

* Stearns County: 20,651 cases; 216 deaths

* Swift County: 977 cases; 18 deaths

* Yellow Medicine County: 1,090 cases; 19 deaths

The state is now also reporting daily vaccine administration numbers.

As of Monday's report, 2,084,627 people have received one dose and 1,420,328 have completed the vaccine series statewide.

The percent of people age 16 and over who have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine in area counties ranges from 39 percent of residents in Meeker County to 63 percent in Big Stone County. To date, 43% of residents in Kandiyohi County age 16 and over have had at least one dose of the vaccine.
