West central Minnesota adds 76 COVID-19 cases in Monday's report

Apr. 19—WILLMAR — There were no COVID-19 deaths reported in the region on Monday, though there were 76 new cases of the disease, according to the daily Minnesota Department of Health situation update.

Stearns County had 48 newly reported cases, Kandiyohi County had 13 and Meeker County added eight. Chippewa and Redwood counties each added two, while Big Stone, Swift and Yellow Medicine counties had one new case. Lac qui Parle, Pope and Renville counties had no new cases reported Monday.

The state's cumulative number of cases is now 557,665, after adding an additional 1,292 cases.

Of the cumulative number of cases, 40,523 of them have been among health care workers.

There were six new deaths reported on Monday. The state's current total number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 is now 7,026. Most of the deaths, 4,336, have occurred in long-term care or assisted living facilities, and 5,791 of the people who died were 70 or older.

The information was included in the latest daily situation update from the Minnesota Department of Health, released at 11 a.m. daily. The data released are current as of 4 p.m. the day before.

Since the start of the pandemic, the number of COVID-19 cases among residents confirmed to reside in area counties and the number of deaths includes:

Big Stone County: 565 cases; 4 deaths

Chippewa County: 1,467 cases; 37 deaths

Kandiyohi County: 6,295 cases; 81 deaths

Lac qui Parle County: 736 cases; 22 deaths

Meeker County: 2,381 cases; 37 deaths

Pope County: 1,031 cases; 6 deaths

Redwood County: 1,665 cases; 35 deaths

*

Renville County: 1,725 cases; 43 deaths

Stearns County: 21,100 cases; 219 deaths

*

Swift County: 1,001 cases; 18 deaths

Yellow Medicine County: 1,109 cases; 19 deaths

The state is now also reporting daily vaccine administration numbers. As of Monday's report, 2,292,756 people have received one dose and 1,625,800 have completed the vaccine series statewide, approximately 52 percent of the eligible population of 16 years and up.

The percent of eligible people — those age 16 and over — who have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine in area counties ranges from 42 percent in Meeker County to 63 percent in Big Stone County. To date, 45 percent of eligible residents in Kandiyohi County have had at least one dose of the vaccine.
