Weekend Blitz: Slate full of key games for area teams

Oct. 6—The Red Eddies get a break from their tough Class A schedule but must face Class B's final unbeaten team.

The Hornets won last year's regular season meeting, but the Capers won the regional final and went on to win the state title.

The Blue Devils finish the regular season with what appear to be three winnable games. The Dragons have struggled.

The Class D Greyhounds, winners of three straight, face a top Class C team for the second week in a row.

The Ramblers are at the top of the standings, but the Falcons have yet to lose to a Class D team.

The Knights have two shutouts and have only allowed only seven points since opening the season with a loss.

These are two of the top teams in 8-man Large South, so this matchup likely will impact playoff seeding.

The Falcons, who have soared through their first five games, must avoid looking ahead to next week's showdown with Dirigo.

A victory over the Bulldogs probably would be even bigger to the Cougars than last week's "signature" win over Messalonskee.

The Raiders have won two straight. Hermon and other C North teams have struggled against Class D this season.

Next up for the Vikings are the unpredictable — but always formidable — Scots.

A win certainly boosts the Rebels' playoff standing, while the Cougars can set up a top-of-the-standings tilt with Mountain Valley next week.
