Wednesday roundup: Jackson girls beat GlenOak; Alyssa Ziehler sets Green career rebounds record

HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL

JACKSON 46, GLENOAK 37 Megan Campbell scored 16 points and Emma Dretke finished with 14 to help Jackson beat GlenOak and tighten the Federal League race. The Polar Bears (11-5, 6-4) pulled away in the fourth quarter and handed the first-place Golden Eagles their second straight loss. GlenOak (14-3, 8-2) saw its lead over Green drop to one game. Kaitlyn Boron led the Golden Eagles with 12 points. Breezie Williams finished with 10.

GREEN 44, PERRY 37 Alyssa Ziehler broke the Green record for career rebounds in its Federal League win. Ziehler’s 533 rebounds surpasses the previous record held by Savanna Maynard from 2016-19. Ziehler broke the school record for career steals in the first game of this season. She finished with 12 points and 13 rebounds Wednesday. Jenna Slates led the Bulldogs with 15 points and 17 rebounds. Meredith Randulic scored 14 points to lead Perry.

HOOVER 43, LAKE 34 Hoover jumped out to a 13-8 lead after the first quarter and never looked back in a Federal League road win. Grace Craig was the leading scorer for Hoover with 11 points. Angela Roshak also had 10 points for the Vikings. Alayna Horning scored 15 points to lead Lake.

McKINLEY 47, LUTHERAN EAST 30 The Bulldogs outscored Lutheran East 29-2 over the second and third quarters on their way to a non-league win. Ky'lonee Foster led McKinley (4-10) with 15 points. Leilani McNeill finished with 10 points. X'zaryia Fannin had a game-high 11 rebounds.

NORTHWEST 66, MASSILLON 36 Lily Bottomley and Ashley Cudnik scored 20 points apiece to lead Northwest to a road win. Bottomley grabbed 13 rebounds for her double-double, while Cudnik and Gianna Kuhn had six assists each for Northwest (15-2). Telai Mealy scored 12 points and Kaliyah Hewitt added 11 for Massillon (2-15).

ROOTSTOWN 35, ST. THOMAS AQUINAS 27 Paris Everett scored nine points for Aquinas in a road loss.

TUSKY VALLEY 55, SANDY VALLEY 25 Ashley Merrick scored 13 points to lead four Tusky Valley players in double figures. Kaleigh Norris finished with 11 points for Tusky Valley (14-3, 10-1). Brook Stookey and Kadence Stutz scored 10 points apiece. Stookey also grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds. Abbey Parker led Sandy Valley (12-6, 6-5) with 10 points.

TUSC. CENTRAL CATHOLIC 45, MALVERN 37 Maddie Powers had 21 points and six rebounds for Malvern in a road loss. Reese Triplett scored 21 points to lead the Saints.

COLLEGE MEN'S BASKETBALL

MOUNT UNION 89, JOHN CARROLL 80 Another big night from Christian Parker helped carry the Purple Raiders to their fifth straight win. Parker scored a career-high 28 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. He tied a career high with 26 points Monday. Ethan Stanislawski finished with 18 points and six assists for Mount Union (15-2, 8-2 OAC). Chris Painter scored 14 points. Darrell Newsom added 10 points and three steals.

COLLEGE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

JOHN CARROLL 77, MOUNT UNION 50 Olivia Nagy’s double-double of 20 points and 12 rebounds led 10th-ranked John Carroll. Kelsie Glass finished with 14 points to lead the Purple Raiders (6-9, 3-6). Emma Cannon scored 12 points. Isi Palamone added 10. The Blue Streaks used a 15-1 second quarter run to grab a 47-25 halftime lead.
