Webster County beats Dawson Springs 86-53 in season opener

DIXON, Ky. -- Bradin Nelson led a balanced Webster County offense with 14 points as the Trojans won their season opener over Dawson Springs 86-53 Monday night.

Four Webster County players scored in double figures as Noah Duncan came off the bench to hit three 3-pointers and totaled 13 points. Markus Austin scored 11 points, while Aaron Harmon added 10.

The Panthers committed 37 turnovers as the Trojans took control of the game with a 12-0 run in the second quarter and expanded a 23-21 lead.

Rett Nieters led Dawson Springs with a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Gummie Johnston added 11 points.

Dawson Springs was playing its first game since the death of Logan McKnight, a 2021 graduate of the school and former member of the basketball team who was killed in a car crash last week. McKnight's funeral will be Wednesday at Dawson Springs High School.

Webster County's next game will be Friday at Apollo, while Dawson Springs visits Christian Fellowship on Tuesday.
