Watertown wrestlers open season with 75-6, 77-0 wins; Milbank splits duals at Madison

YANKTON — Watertown High School’s wrestling team couldn’t have asked for a better start to the 2021-22 season on Thursday.

The Arrows rolled to dual wins over Beresford/Alcester-Hudson 75-6 and Yankton 77-0 in a triangular.

Watertown won 27 of 28 individual matches with 17 pins, a technical fall, six forfeits and three decisions.

Leo Stroup (106 pounds), Sloan Johannsen (113), Braden Le (120), Connor Hanson (126), Carson Hansmann (138), Derek Hanson (145), Ian Johnson (152), Jax Kettwig (160), Ben Althoff (170), Brock Eitreim (195), Draven Bau (22) and Micah Hach (285) each went 2-0 for the Arrows.

Mac Young and Matthew Peters each were 1-0 at 182 pounds and Weston Everson split two matches at 132.

Watertown hosts the Marv Sherrill Wrestling Dual Tournament starting at 9 a.m. in the Civic Arena.

MADISON — Milbank split two duals Thursday in a high school wrestling triangular, beating Sioux Falls Jefferson 51-24 and losing to Madison 45-30.

Barrett Schneck (160 pounds), Maddox Hanson (220) and Landon Novy (285) each went 2-0 for Milbank.
