Just when it looked like the Cincinnati Bengals might be showing signs of life against the Los Angeles Chargers, a pass from Joe Burrow to Ja'Marr Chase that looked promising turned disastrous during the first quarter of Sunday's 41-22 loss at Paul Brown Stadium.

Trailing 9-0, Burrow picked up a big first down one play earlier with a 21-yard pass to Tee Higgins on 3rd-and-14. He hit Chase in stride on a long pass, but Chase bobbled it into the hands of Chargers cornerback Michael Davis.

Chase, who had Davis beat by a couple of steps when he started bobbling the ball, likely would have scored a touchdown. Instead, Justin Herbert's second touchdown pass of the day to Keenan Allen gave Los Angeles a 16-0 lead before the first quarter was over.

An ugly start for the Bengals got worse when linebacker Logan Wilson was carted off the field with a shoulder injury.
