With it being the anniversary of Boston Celtics team president Danny Ainge being hired by the franchise in 2003, we thought it would be a good time to take a look back at how the one-time Celtics champion shooting guard returned to the team to take the helm.

For many Boston fans, Ainge is the only general manager of the team they have ever known, but to older fans he is also a key figure in the history of the storied franchise, and a link between eras of excellence separated by a gulf of abysmal play over many seasons triggered by a series of disasters, bad luck and bad decisions that kept the Celtics in NBA gulag for nearly two decades.

Bringing Danny on as an executive was critical in moving past that so-called “wilderness era.”

Let’s take a moment to appreciate Ainge as Team President with the video embedded above — we appreciate you, Danny.
