Washington County football Week 5: Rourke, Williamsport too much for Boonsboro

By any standards, Cole Rourke measured up to nearly everything Williamsport needed.
The senior back scored three second-half touchdowns on a short run, a medium romp and a long kickoff return to help the Wildcats go the distance in a win over visiting Boonsboro.
Rourke opened the second half by returning the kickoff for a 75-yard touchdown and then added TD runs of 1 and 30 yards as Williamsport (4-1) proved to be more efficient on the wet field, courtesy of the remnants of Hurricane Ian.
The Williamsport defense did its share, starting with Ceonta Wilmore’s 70-yard fumble return for the first score of the game. Then the Wildcats stuffed the Warriors (2-3) on a number of drives to keep them off the scoreboard.
Wilmore broke the scoreless tie at 10:10 of the second quarter when the Wildcats gang tackled and stripped the ball from Boonsboro’s Hayden Hobson. Wilmore broke from the pack and ran untouched for the score.
Cole Kriner added the first of his four extra points for the 7-0 lead that held through halftime.
Rourke doubled the lead in the first 17 seconds of the second half, grabbing the kick off a bounce and skirting the left end of the coverage to run for the touchdown and a 14-0 lead.
After a Corry Nelson interception, Williamsport worked its passing game and got to the 1, where Rourke hopped over the line for his second touchdown at the 4:12 mark of the third quarter for a 21-0 lead.
Boonsboro got on the board on the first play of the fourth quarter on a 5-yard run by Luke Churchey to make it 21-7.
Rourke put the finishing touches on the victory on a make-shift draw play that allowed him to go through the right center of the line and break free for the 30-yard score and the 21-point win.
Jefferson 48, South Hagerstown 6
Dylan Harich threw for three touchdowns and ran for a fourth, Evan Tewell ran for two scores and caught a third, and the Cougars (4-2) rolled past the Rebels (1-4) at School Stadium.
Harich's TD passes covered 14 yards to Spencer Powell, 12 yards to Tewell and 43 yards to Keyshawn Robinson. He ran in an option keeper from 3 yards out.
Tewell ran for TDs of 3 yards and 1 yard for Jefferson, which got its final score on a fumble return in the closing minutes.
South quarterback Lance Ford threw a 17-yard TD pass to Lewis Berry to cut the lead to 14-6 early in the second quarter.
Allegany 33, Smithsburg 0
Cayden Bratton ran for a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter, Brett Patterson scored twice in the fourth and the visiting Campers (3-2) rolled to a shutout victory over the Leopards (1-4).
Allegany led 5-0 at halftime. The Campers blocked a Smithsburg punt in the end zone for a safety in the first quarter, and Blake Powell kicked a 37-yard field goal in the second.
A steady rain came at halftime, and the Campers poured it on in the second half.
Bratton scored on a 13-yard run with 7:35 left in the third period, and less than two minutes later — two plays after a Leopards turnover — his 2-yard TD run gave Allegany a 19-0 lead.
Patterson scooped up a Smithsburg fumble and returned it 65 yards for a touchdown with 7:14 left in the game to make it 26-0, and with 2:06 remaining, he scored on an 8-yard run.
Highlights for Smithsburg included a fumble recovery by Josh Hegbe, who was named homecoming king at halftime, and a 51-yard punt to the Campers’ 1-yard line by Cameron Rejonis.
Brunswick 44, Clear Spring 0
The Railroaders improved to 4-1 with a win over the visiting Blazers (0-5).
Southern Garrett 53, Hancock 0
The Rams (1-4) topped the host Panthers (0-5) for their first victory of the season.
