Washington County Ag Expo and Fair opens this weekend

The annual Washington County Ag Expo and Fair begins Saturday and will run through July 23 at the Washington County Agricultural Education Center south of Boonsboro.

The admission costs $5, with events including tractor pulls, demolition derbies, bull riding, exhibits for kids and carnivals.

“There’s something for everybody here,” said Joe Frey, Washington County Ag Expo and Fair president.

There will be axe throwing and a motorcycle race for the first time at the fair this year. The motorcycle race was canceled in 2021 due to poor weather, but is scheduled to take place Saturday.

Throughout the week there will be other events, including STEM activities, magic shows and Rural Heritage Museum tours.

“Every day is special for our fair,” Frey said.

Bands will also perform during the week for no additional cost to the price of admission.

General admission will be free on Saturday for opening day. Military personnel with a valid ID will be granted free admission on Monday, and those 65 and older won’t have to pay for entry on Tuesday.

Frey said he is looking forward to seeing crowds at the fair in his second year as president.

“It’s great,” Frey said. “All the community involvement and sponsorships … It’s really great.”
