Warsaw man indicted for crash that killed Dover woman and her sister

COSHOCTON — A Coshocton County Grand Jury has indicted a Warsaw man on criminal charges related to killing two women and severely injuring a man during a crash on Sept. 26.

Shannon D. Ziegler, 30, was indicted on four counts of aggravated vehicular homicide, second-degree felonies, two counts of vehicular assault, third-degree felonies, and two counts of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, a drug of abuse or a combination, first-degree misdemeanors.

According to the Coshocton County Sheriff's Office, the incident happened shortly before 7 p.m. on U.S. Route 36, near Bethlehem Township Road 1159. Authorities said Ziegler went off the right side of the roadway, then overcorrected and returned to the road before going left of center in a 2008 Ford F-150.

He then collided with a vehicle driven by Thomas Wiegand, 64, of Dover. Passengers in his vehicle were Elizabeth Wiegand, 62, of Dover, and her sister Mary Paris, 74, of Portland, Oregon. Paris was pronounced dead on scene and Elizabeth Wiegand died later at Grant Medical Center in Columbus. Thomas Wiegand was transported to Grant Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.

The indictment said Ziegler had a blood alcohol level of .17, more than double the legal limit of .08, at the time of the crash.
