Warriors star Steph Curry on one of the hottest scoring streaks of his career

As he was lighting it up in the third quarter, Steph Curry thought of his pal Klay Thompson's NBA-record 37-point quarter from January 2015.

Curry couldn't quite match his teammate's record, but he put on a show nonetheless Wednesday. Curry scored 25 of his 42 points in the third quarter to lead the Golden State Warriors to a 147-109 rout of the Oklahoma City Thunder. He shot 8-of-8 from the field in the third, including 6-of-6 on 3-pointers, as the Warriors scored 50 points to put the game completely out of reach.

In a career filled with incredible shooting performances, Curry is on one of his most impressive streaks. He has scored at least 30 points in a career-high eight consecutive games, averaging 38.9 during the stretch on 55.4% shooting overall and 49.1% from 3-point range.

"Arguably the best I've felt physically and in rhythm, shooting the ball, just seeing the game, so trying to make it last as long as I can," Curry said.

Curry poured in 53 points Monday to become the Warriors' career scoring leader. He didn't stop Wednesday, scoring 17 in the first half before exploding in the third. Curry shot 14-of-20 overall and 11-of-16 on 3s in 29 minutes. He didn't play in the fourth.

It was Curry's second straight game with at least 10 3s and the 19th of his career. Asked if wants to get the single-game record back from Thompson, Curry laughed.

"Absolutely," said Curry, who held the record with 13 3-pointers until Thompson hit 14 in October 2018.

Curry's performance Wednesday also brought back memories of Thompson's record third quarter against the Sacramento Kings on Jan. 23, 2015. Thompson poured in 37 points on 13-of-13 shooting with nine 3-pointers.

"His 37-point quarter was even crazier, because I had 25 tonight and it just seemed like I was invincible out there," Curry said. "This dude had 12 more points in the same amount of time, so that was crazy in and of itself.

"And then the 14 3s. I had 11 and I felt like I couldn't miss. So I think it's gettable, but we'll see."

Luka's 'lucky' shot

Luka Doncic lit up the NBA world Wednesday with his leaning, off-balance 3-pointer at the buzzer to beat the Memphis Grizzlies. The shot was so incredible, even Doncic was stunned. "It's kind of lucky, but we'll take it," he said after giving the Dallas Mavericks a 114-113 win. Doncic struggled in the first half and had just four points at the break. He came on strong in the second half, finishing with 29 points and nine assists and capping the night with his wild game-winner.

"I was really surprised when it went in," Doncic said. "Those are the best feelings ever."

East showdown

Doc Rivers admitted the top seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs "would be nice to have." The Philadelphia 76ers are a step closer after their 123-117 win Wednesday over the Brooklyn Nets. The Sixers moved a game ahead of the Nets for first place in the East and clinched the season tiebreaker by taking two of three matchups. Joel Embiid had 39 points and 13 rebounds for Philadelphia, and Tobias Harris scored 26 points. Kyrie Irving had 37 points for Brooklyn, which played without Kevin Durant, James Harden, Blake Griffin and LaMarcus Aldridge.

"It's very important," said Sixers guard Ben Simmons. "We want that one seed."

Triple-double tear

Russell Westbrook finished with 25 points, 15 rebounds and 11 assists Wednesday for his sixth straight triple-double, his 24th of the season and the 170th of his career. According to NBA stats, Westbrook has recorded six straight triple-doubles four times in his career, while all other players in league history have three such streaks combined. Westbrook is also closing in on Oscar Robertson's career record of 181 triple-doubles.

Game of the night: Bucks at Hawks

Atlanta has won seven of its last eight to grab control of the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference. Trae Young missed the last two games with a bruised left calf and remains questionable for Thursday, but the Hawks have weathered his absence. Milwaukee maintains its grip on third in the East. Two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo has missed six consecutive games with left knee soreness but could return Thursday.
