Wapahani baseball wins MEC with 5-inning perfect game from Gavin Lash; prep, BSU results
MUNCIE, Ind. — Wapahani left no doubt about being the best team in the Mid-Eastern Conference.
The IHSBCA Class 2A No. 3 Raiders hosted No. 6 Monroe Central on Thursday in a battle for the conference crown, with Wapahani winning in dominant fashion, 10-0, behind a five-inning perfect game from junior Gavin Lash.
It was Lash's first such performance in his high school career, and lowered his season ERA to 1.85 with a 6-2 record. The Raider offense was led by senior Luke Wilmann (two hits, one home run, one RBI) and juniors Daxton Dudley (one hit, two RBI's) and Paul Fisher (one home run).
Wapahani (19-4) has gotten the better of Monroe Central (19-7) of late, most notably in last year's sectional championship that ended in a walk-off homer. The Golden Bears are eager to get over the hump this postseason, and the two squads could face off again in the sectional semifinals at Frankton on May 28 if they both win their first-round games.
