Walpole's Mitchell Cormier wins Hartford Junior Open

May 21—SOUTHWICK, Mass. — Last weekend (May 14-15), the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour held the Hartford Junior Open at The Ranch Golf Club in Southwick, Mass.

Walpole's Mitchell Cormier won the Boys 16-18 Division, shooting scored of 77 and 72 for a combined total of 149 for the weekend. Yuxuan Wang from Shanghai, China was the runner up for the weekend with scores of 82 and 78 for a combined total of 160.

The tournament was made up of a 36-hole format with a field of six divisions that included the Boys 16-18 Division, Boys 14-15 Division, Boys 11-13 Division, Boys Under 10 Division, Girls 14-18 Division, and Girls Under 13 Division.

As the winner, Cormier received invites to several other invitationals and the Tournament of Champions in Orlando in December.

He will be playing in several large golf tournaments over the summer, including the American Junior Golf Association's Killington Junior Golf Championship in June, the 54-hole Connecticut Junior Open in Connecticut Memorial Day weekend and the National High School Golf Association tournament in Pinehurst, N.C.
