Since husband-and-wife team Matt and Angie Hanzel announced plans last year to open a Crumbl Cookies franchise in the Peoria area, anticipation has been building among local cookie fans.

“Whenever I wear my Crumbl shirt around town, there has been a lot of people who’ve expressed excitement and enthusiasm,” said Matt Hanzel.

Hanzel added that the new Crumbl Cookies store, located at 406 W. Washington St., East Peoria, is scheduled to open May 27. He had tentatively planned on opening in March in the Levee District, but due to supply chain issues, he experienced delays in obtaining ovens, mixers and even baking sheets.

“I wouldn't go as far as say things were really delayed,” Hanzel said. “You're always initially ambitious and putting aggressive timelines in place to drive expediency. Our hope would have been on the March time frame, but I don't think there was ever really an official launch date.”
