Update: Athlete of the week, Levi Villapudua

Tulare Western High School boys basketball player Levi Villapudua was voted by readers as the Visalia Times-Delta Tulare County prep athlete of the week.

In an online poll that closed on Dec. 3, Villapudua received 3,420 votes, or a 60.6% majority, of the 5,654 responses.

Villapudua netted a team-best 12 points as the Mustangs topped Shafter 60-36 in a non-league game.

Here are the choices for the week of Nov. 22-27:

  • Carter Glick, boys basketball, Mt. Whitney. Glick canned a team-high 23 points in the Pioneers' 55-37 win over Ripon.

  • Trent Koetsier, football, Central Valley Christian. Koetsier, a sophomore kicker, connected on a 26-yard, game-winning field goal as time expired to lift the Cavaliers to a Central Section Division III title.

  • Levi Villapudua, boys basketball, Tulare Western. Villapudua netted a team-best 12 points as the Mustangs topped Shafter 60-36 in a non-league game.

  • Joey Volchko, boys basketball, Redwood. Volchko scored a team-high 17 points to help the Rangers defeat Monache 83-64 in their season opener.

Anyone (coaches, parents, teammates, teachers, friends, etc.) can nominate an athlete of the week for every sport.

Nominations are based on information made available to the Times-Delta. Please include statistics and a photo with your submission.

All high school varsity players from Tulare County are eligible to be placed on the ballot. Nominations must be received by Monday morning following that week's games for consideration.
