Virginia man arrested in connection with Chatham online sexual solicitation case

A 23-year-old Virginia man was arrested and charged with one count of online sexual solicitation of a minor involving a 14-year-old Chatham girl.

The arrest of Nicolas Ramey, 23, of Amissville, Virginia, was made last week, Chatham Police Chief Vernon Foli said.

Additional charges may be filed against Ramey in Virginia, Foli said.

Chatham police received a report on March 11 that the Chatham teen had begun receiving unsolicited sexually explicit messages via Snapchat, an instant messaging app.

Foli said the department began an immediate investigation led by Officer Travis Schaal.

"He conducted a very thorough investigation and put a lot of work into this case as well," Foli said of Schaal.

An agent from the Virginia State Police's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force was involved in the case.

Foli believed the receipt of the images was "fully unsolicited" and "random."

"That's why we constantly preach to everybody, to parents, be aware of what your kids are on social media-wise," Foli said. "Parents need to be involved and see where their kids are going."
