Virginia eliminates UConn from NCAA tournament

May 15—SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The UConn women's lacrosse team's season came to and abrupt end Friday with a 19-13 loss to Virginia in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Grace Coon scored four goals in the loss for the Huskies. Windsor's Lia LaPrise also scored for UConn.

UConn ends its season with a 12-7 record.

Virginia (9-8) moves on to face Notre Dame in the second round Sunday. The Fighting Irish blanked Robert Morris 16-0 Friday.

Annie Dyson scored four goals for Virginia, with teammates Taylor Regan and Ashlyn McGovern adding three each.

Softball

UConn: The third-seeded Huskies (22-18) beat Butler 4-1 Friday in Storrs in the semifinals of the Big East Tournament and will face second-seeded Villanova for the championship today.

Butler took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning, but UConn tied the game on Devon Casazza's home run in the bottom of the frame. UConn added single runs in the second, third, fifth, and sixth innings.

Payton Kinney (11-11) earned the win in relief for the Huskies, striking out six, including the final two batters of the game.

Baseball

CCSU: Dave Matthews hit a home run during a three-run 10th inning as the Blue Devils beat Mount. St. Mary's 5-2.

It was the fifth win of the season for the Blue Devils (21-11, 18-8 Northeast Conference) over the Mountaineers, including eight straight in the series.
