Viral twitter posts lead Randolph woman to open her own nail art salon

BROCKTON – After a viral Twitter post, Verdia Joslyn,23, gained the confidence to fully take herself and her new nail business Kiss Her Boutique seriously.

Like many entrepreneurs, friction occurred in her life to jump-start the journey of becoming a boss.

Joslyn experienced this discomfort when she was fired from her full-time occupation.

Right before the quarantine, in 2019, Joslyn dove deep into the nail world as a hobby.

The nail technician eventually polished her craft and began taking clients after becoming licensed by the state of Massachusetts in the same year.

Joslyn's losing her job came at the perfect time as she mastered a new skill and started heavily marketing to attract clients.

"Once I got laid off, I knew I had to try something with the nails and see where it takes me," Joslyn said.

"I took three pictures of the work I did and posted a tweet saying I'm a local nail tech looking to grow her clientele," Joslyn said.

Thousands of people liked and retweeted the post causing a frenzy of local bookings.

Joslyn began thinking outside of the box on how to expand her business with her newfound clientele.

"Much of my growth came from word of mouth and social media. I take a lot of pictures and videos of work and post it online, and it helps potential clients find you and see your different techniques," Joslyn said.

The entrepreneur eventually opened a nail salon at 22 North St., Randolph. Joslyn specializes in acrylic nails and loves creating funky, unique designs.

"I do a lot of freestyle designs, ombre sets, French manicures, any type of nail art you want, I can do," Joslyn said.

Since opening Kiss Her Boutique, the nail salon has expanded to an e-commerce store selling press-on nails, neon signs and nail supplies.

"It feels so good to have a business and be a business owner. Also, finding a location in the city I grew up in and giving back to my community is an amazing feeling," Joslyn said.
