Vinnie Jones calls Coleen Rooney and Rebekah Vardy 'an embarrassment' in tearful TV interview

Heartbroken Vinnie Jones has weighed in on the Wag-ileaks row, calling Coleen Rooney and Rebekah Vardy “an embarrassment” and saying his late wife Tanya would never have dreamed of courting tabloid attention.

The footballer turned Hollywood star opened his heart about his beloved wife’s death from cancer in July during an interview with Good Morning Britain, and didn’t hold back when asked for his views on the Rooney-Vardy saga.

He told hosts Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid: “The thing with Tans, you look at the paper now with the two football wives, Tanya got offered hundreds and hundreds of opportunities to do modelling and do stories and she never done none of them.

“She’s the opposite to these girls now. People ask me, ‘What do you think of these two girls?’

“I think it’s quite funny and everything else. But what an embarrassment to their husbands, no thought of their kids.”

Coleen, who is married to footballer Wayne Rooney, posted on Twitter last week that she had been doing some amateur sleuthing work to try to find out who had been leaking stories about her to The Sun, and alleged that after blocking everyone else from her private Instagram stories there was only one account that could have been responsible: that of Jamie Vardy’s wife Rebekah. Rebekah has strongly denied being the source for the stories.

Reid prompted Jones: “Tanya didn’t seek fame for herself,” and he replied: “She turned it away.”

Later in the interview, Jones said more about how Tanya, who he was married to for 25 years, had been nothing like a typical Wag.

He said: “Tanya’s birthday present every year wasn’t a Gucci bag like these girls in the newspaper. Tanya’s birthday present every year from me was two economy flights for her two best friends to come to LA.”

The star broke down in tears as he talked about a letter Tanya had left for her daughter Kaley that read “don’t grieve, I’ll be waiting for you”.

Jones cried as he said: “I believe that. I believe that. I’ve got something to look forward to. If you turn a negative into a positive, then she’s waiting. It’s the best way to do it.”

He also told a moving story about sitting outside in the garden on the evening of the day she had died.

Jones said: “I don’t believe in all this stuff, but I went to go inside and there was a white light... I blew her a kiss and went to walk in.

“Every single day I left the house, she’d blow me a kiss and I’d catch it, and take it to golf with me or whatever.

“I blew her a kiss and threw it, and I swear to you Piers, the white light flew to the left and was gone. That was my moment I knew she had gone.”

He added: “That’s me knowing she is waiting, and the letter... In the spectrum of the universe, our time here is minute, so it’s not a problem, I’ll press on through work.”
