Vikes down Spartans in 4

Sep. 17—MONTGOMERY — The Barr-Reeve Vikings volleyball team continued its dominance of Blue Chip opponents with a four-set win over South Knox (6-6). B-R posted a 25-19, 25-10, 22-25 and a 25-17 win at New Viking Arena on Thursday.

The Vikings took an early lead 6-3, with kills from Hannah Swartzentruber and Emma Wagler, however, South Knox rallied to take a 8-7 and 9-8 lead. With Colleen Trambaugh serving, B-R took an 11-9 lead, but SK tied it at 11-all. Kills from Dylan DeCoursey and Sara Graber made it 17-11, before the Lady Spartans were forced into a time out. DeCoursey added a smash for the 18th point.

B-R pushed it out to 22-17. The Spartans cut it back to 19-23 and the Vikes called a TO, followed by DeCoursey's kill and a net ball after Tranbaugh's serve to finish off the first game, 25-19.

The Vikes roared out to a 9-1 lead, behind the serving of Willow Thompson, before South Knox got the ball back at 10-2. Sara Graber had an ace to bring it to 13-3. Emma Wagler added an ace to make it 18-5. Hannah Bledsoe added the 20th point for B-R and DeCoursey had a kill for No. 22. For the Vikes finished them off 25-10 in Game 2.

Game 3 opened with the Vikes taking the first point, while a block kill from Swartzentruber made it 3-2. The Vikes extended it to 6-3, but SK tied it at 6-all and eventually took an 8-6 lead. Emma Wagler added a cross-court kill to help shift momentum, but SK maintained a 10-9 lead. SK pushed it to 14-9 and eventually to 17-12. B-R battled back to 15-17 but SK was again able to stretch it to a five-point lead. An ace from Sara Graber pulled B-R back to within one and the Vikes tied it at 21-all. Unfortunately, SK was able to come away with the 25-22 win to force a fourth game.

SK kept the momentum and opened with a 2-0 lead in Game 4. A DeCoursey ace tied it 3-all and an ace from Graber as well made it 6-4. The Vikes moved to 9-7 and with Wagler at the line, ran it to 15-7.

A Decoursey kill pushed it to 20-12, but SK continued to battle. The Spartans crept back to 17-22, before the Vikes ended with a 25-17 win.

In the JV match, B-R won 25-20 and 25-22.
