Video shows terrifying moment bungee cord snaps on slingshot ride at Florida amusement park

The bungee cord on a Florida amusement park ride snapped just seconds before taking off Saturday, leading to a frightening moment caught on camera.

The video, shared on Facebook by Krissy Hurst, shows two men sitting the Vertical Accelerator ride at the Cobra Adventure Park in Panama City, Fla., as onlookers count down from 10.

Then, just as an operator pulls a lever to start the ride, one of the cables snaps, causing onlookers to scream in shock.

"Holy s***," one woman behind the camera says. "We just dodged death."

WARNING: The below video contains explicit language:

"Did y'all see that?" the same woman says. "The f****** rope shredded right as they were about to take off."

The ride was stopped and the passengers were removed, with no one getting hurt in the process. Still, the riders and their friends seemed frightened by the experience. Cobra Adventure Park said the ride is now up and running again.

Reverse bungee rides, also known as slingshots or ejection seats, are common at fairs and amusement parks. However, they're known to malfunction.

In 2017, a bungee ride stopped working at a county fair in California, leaving riders suspended in the air for nearly half an hour. One of the passengers, 19-year-old Roger Rodriguez, was left hanging upside down by his ankles.

"I was about to pass out," he told the Ventura County Star at the time.

Earlier this year, a man sued the Royal Caribbean cruise line for $75,000 after he was injured on a bungee trampoline ride. The man said he fractured his pelvis after falling 20 feet on one of the ship's attractions called the "Sky Pad."
