Jamie Vardy’s work ethic could be the key to seeing Leicester finishing in the top four this season.

The 32-year-old striker played a pivotal role in Leicester winning the Premier League in 2016 scoring 24 goals as Claudio Ranieri’s side shocked the football world to win the title.

Now under Brendan Rodgers, Leicester have arguably a better team compared to the one that won the Premier League title – but the strength of Liverpool and Manchester City means it looks unlikely that lightning will strike twice for the Foxes.

But former striker Ahmed Musa sees no reason why they cannot finish in the top four this term.

Vardy has been in a rich vein of form in front of goal this season and already has 13 goals to his name.

And former strike partner Musa is not surprised by this form as he has seen first-hand how hard Vardy works.

Nigerian striker Musa – who is now playing in Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr – would not be surprised to see his former side qualify for the Champions League next season.

He said: “I think Leicester are playing very well this season and if they continue the way they have been at the start of the season then I see no reason why they cannot finish in the top four.

“Jamie Vardy is a very hard-working player. He is always stays behind after training to work on his game.

“So I am pleased to see him back and scoring regularly now.”

Looking back on his own time at the King Power Stadium, Musa feels his performances started to dip once Ranieri was sacked.

The Italian was in charge when Musa arrived at Leicester for a fee of £16million and was then dismissed in February 2017 with the club just one point above the relegation zone.

And Musa says that the price tag was not an issue for him but Ranieri’s departure was.

He added: “The price tag was not a pressure for me when I went to Leicester.

“Sometimes in football you have a bad moment and things are not going to go the way you want them to.

“When I first joined the club I was very happy, but then the coach who signed me [Ranieri] left and things changed.”
