Valley Duals return to Ilion
ILION — Central Valley Academy hosts the 21st annual edition of the Valley Duals wrestling tournament Dec. 10.
The tournament resumes this year after a two-year hiatus. Prior to COVID-19 scrambling the 2020-21 winter season, Central Valley Academy was seven-for-seven winning the team championship following the district merger between Mohawk and Ilion.
Doors open for spectators at 8:30 a.m., with the first matches scheduled for 9:30 a.m., and admission is free.Joining Central Valley Academy's Thunder on three mats in the main gym this year will be Little Falls, Mt. Markham, Chittenango, West Genesee and Gouverneur with the final matches of round robin competition scheduled for 4 p.m. Central Valley Academy will be on the center mat for each round. The Thunder swept seven matches in two days of competition in 2019 and last lost a dual at the tournament in 2016.
The schedule is as follows:
First Round, 9:30 a.m.: Gouverneur vs. Little Falls, Mat 1; Central Valley Academy vs. Chittenango, Mat 2; West Genesee vs. Mt. Markham, Mat 3.
Second Round, 11 a.m.: Gouverneur vs. West Genesee, Mat 1; Central Valley vs. Mt. Markham, Mat 2; Little Falls vs. Chittenango, Mat 3.
Third Round, 1 p.m.: Gouverneur vs. Chittenango, Mat 1; Central Valley Academy vs. West Genesee, Mat 2; Little Falls vs. Mt. Markham, Mat 3.
Fourth Round, 2:30 p.m.: Gouverneur vs, Mt. Markham, Mat 1; Central Valley Academy vs. Little Falls, Mat 2; Chittenango vs. West Genesee, Mat 3.
Fifth Round, 4 p.m.: Mt. Markham vs. Chittenango, Mat 1; Central Valley Academy vs. Gouverneur, Mat 2; Little Falls vs. West Genesee, Mat 3.
