USA World Cup 2022 soccer schedule: Dates, kick-off times and latest team news for Qatar

The USA have set-up a last-16 tie against Holland after narrowly eking out a win over Iran in their final group stage match. They drew against Wales and England in their other two games.

The USA are back in the World Cup after missing the 2018 tournament and had to win against Iran, who were on three points going into the match after two last-minute goals against Wales in their second match.

Christian Pulisic scored while crashing headfirst into the goalkeeper in the 38th minute – he sprawled on the field and was lying in the goal for about three minutes as he received treatment from the US staff. He reentered the game but was replaced at the start of the second half.

"I always say it's us against the world," forward Tim Weah said. "No one believed the US could play good football."

Iran finished third with three points. The team has failed to advance in all six of its World Cup appearances.

There was heightened tension surrounding the match because of the strained relations between the United States and Iran's Islamic government. Iran had famously upset the US 2-1 in the 1998 tournament in France, eliminating the Americans.

Christian Pulisic was taken to the hospital with an abdominal injury suffered in scoring the game-winning goal Tuesday in the 1-0 win over Iran in Doha.

A US Soccer spokesperson told ESPN and World Cup broadcaster FOX Sports that Pulisic was taken to the hospital to get scans on the injury.

Pulisic sustained the injury after tapping in the header from Sergino Dest in the 38th minute. Pulisic crashed hard into Iran goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand. Pulisic was on the ground for several minutes and struggled in his return to the field of play.

Pulisic was replaced at halftime Brenden Aaronson. Pulisic has 22 goals in 55 international appearances.

Quarter-final dates

The first two quarter-finals will take place on Friday, December 9, at 3pm and 7pm, and will be played at Education City Stadium and Lusail Iconic Stadium. The remaining quarter-finals are on Saturday, December 10, at 3pm and 7pm, and will be played at Al Thumama Stadium and Al Bayt Stadium.

Semi-final dates

The semi-finals will take place on Tuesday, December 13 and Wednesday, December 14, at Lusail Iconic Stadium and Al Bayt Stadium, with both matches taking place at 7pm.

The World Cup final will take place on Sunday, December 18 at 3pm at Lusail Iconic Stadium.
