US Postal Service looking to hire 50-plus workers at Spartanburg County locations

The U.S. Postal Service has joined a number of employers holding job fairs to fill open positions.

A hiring event will be held 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, at the Spartanburg County Library, Barrett Community Room, 151 S. Church St., Spartanburg.

Pamela Garrett, officer in charge at the main Spartanburg Post Office on South Church Street, said the Postal Service is looking to fill some 50 full- and part-time and seasonal positions for jobs in the city and county post offices in Spartanburg, Moore, Union, Roebuck, Woodruff, Duncan, Landrum, Chesnee, Cowpens and Gaffney.

The pay ranges from $18.92 an hour for city carrier assistants to $19.06 an hour for rural carriers and assistants.

For career employees, bBenefits include multiple health and life insurance choices, retirement and thrift savings plans, vacation time and sick leave, and education assistance.

City carriers deliver and collect mail on foot or by vehicle. Rural carriers deliver and collect mail along prescribed rural routes, using a vehicle.

Garrett said the main Spartanburg post office has held job fairs in the past. This is the first being held jointly with post offices in the city and county.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the jobless rate in Spartanburg in March was 3.2%, down from 4% in February.

Garrett said jobs with the Postal Service have long been popular. There are more than 300 postal employees in Spartanburg city and county.

Among other area employers that have planned or held job fairs or hiring events are DHL Supply Chain of Cowpens; Rochling Automotive in Duncan; Spartanburg City Police Department; PLI Cards in Greer; Plastic Omnium in Spartanburg; Goodwill Industries of the Upstate; Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System; Contec Inc. of Spartanburg.

A multi-employer job fair is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, at SC Works, 220 E. Kennedy St., Spartanburg.
