An upcoming episode of "Fresh Off the Boat" will introduce characters designed for a future spinoff.

Variety reports that in the coming weeks, ABC is slated to film an episode that introduces several new characters who could later star in a full-fledged spinoff series.

The episode is currently titled "Magic Motor Inn" and will focus on an Indian family. One of the family's kids goes to school with one of the Huang children. Preity G. Zinta and Vir Das have been cast as the parents of the Indian family.

An insider says that the production is, in fact, for a legit "Fresh Off the Boat" episode, not an actual pilot. If ABC decides it wants to move forward with a spinoff, it will have to shoot a new, separate pilot.

"Fresh Off the Boat," which debuted in 2015, was renewed for a sixth season in May with all of its major actors returning. It's not yet known whether this season will be its last or if ABC has more in store.

Stars Randall Park and Constance Wu have both found success outside of their sitcom breakout roles: Wu starred in "Crazy Rich Asians" and "Hustlers" while Park played the leading man in Netflix's "Always Be My Maybe." He's also appeared in both Marvel and DC superhero films.
