United Way sets $4.15 million goal

Sep. 18—HIGH POINT — The United Way of Greater High Point kicked off its 2021 fundraising campaign and celebrated the end of its 12th annual CANpaign Food Drive Thursday evening at its Phillips Avenue offices.

With the assistance of a High Point Fire Department ladder truck, Campaign Chair Tony Bertschi revealed the $4.15 million 2021 United Way campaign goal and thanked community members, United Way staff and his 2021 Campaign Cabinet.

"Last year showed us that anything is possible when we work together to make a difference," Bertschi said. "The community of Greater High Point has shown that we can step up to the plate when our neighbors are in need. That need is still there, and we can still aid in the recovery of those most vulnerable in our community."

Bertschi, general manager of Crescent Ford, said he believes the community can meet this campaign goal and looks forward to "seeing the thermometers get filled in" as businesses and residents each do their part to respond and rebuild.

For the past 12 years, the United Way has collected nonperishable food to help restock local food pantries within the community of Greater High Point. Thousands of pounds of food were donated from more than 35 community organizations to help restock 17 local food pantries, said United Way President Jane Liebscher.

"The annual CANpaign Food Drive has become a critical event for helping to address food insecurity in our community, Liebscher said. "We are so grateful for our community's tireless efforts to help others."
