United Way, Alliance businesses to collect socks for kids

United Way of Greater Stark County is working with two city businesses to collect children’s socks and underwear for the area’s needy residents.

On Feb. 6-8, Tanner Real Estate and A Shirtery + More will serve as collection sites for donations of new children’s socks and underwear.

All items collected will be distributed to families and children in the Alliance area through community partners of the United Way.

“Socks and underwear are basic necessities,” the United Way said in a news release announcing the effort. “Too many families in our community are struggling with financial stability, meaning it’s harder to afford items like these. Please consider joining us as we support our neighbors.”

Donations can be made at Tanner Real Estate, 1965 Glamorgan St., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Wednesday, Feb. 6-8; and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at A Shirtery + More, 2213 W. State St., on the same dates.

United Way officials suggest teaming up to create a large donation. “Consider hosting a collection with them and then dropping off the items between Feb. 6 – 8,” the release said. Contact lydia.carmany@uwstark.org with any questions.
