United says well-placed for post-virus rebound

United Airlines expects to be a big winner of post-pandemic international travel, it said on Thursday.

As other airlines retire large planes from their fleets or retreat from long-haul markets, Chicago-based United has been turning up the heat and lobbying the new U.S administration to reopen borders for people who test negative for COVID-19 before travel, or have been vaccinated.

The largest U.S operator of international flights has taken a battering during the pandemic that brought international travel to a screeching halt.

But U.S President Joe Biden has signaled he plans to maintain a ban on most travelers from Europe and Brazil, as well as enforcing a quarantine for all international air passengers who touch down on U.S soil.

Biden has moved swiftly to ramp up testing, vaccinations and enforce mask-wearing measures that are key to fighting the pandemic and restore confidence to air travel.

And when more planes do start taking to the skies again, passengers can expect fewer flight options.

One of those changes may be fewer large business-class cabins on widebody aircraft.

As airlines in Europe trim long haul jets, such as Norwegian Air, that announced last week if will end its transatlantic flights,

United has been revamping its business-class product and kept its fleet largely intact.

United Chief Executive said it could expect travel demand to snap back to around 90 percent of 2019 levels, and expects profit margins in 2023.

Plus qu’une simple intention, cette dynamique de fond est notamment soutenue par l’État qui, dans son grand plan de relance et de soutien à l’économie, accorde une part importante de son budget à la notion de transition énergétique. Quels enjeux sont liés à la modification de nos consommations d’énergie Il existe à ce sujet de nombreuses réponses : remplacement des ressources fossiles qui se raréfient, recherche d’indépendance énergétique, etc. Pour autant, un axe clé de cette révolution semble largement être guidé par des enjeux sociétaux parmi lesquels une recherche de mieux vivre est une composante centrale. Repenser l’habitat d’aujourd’hui et de demain Une chose est sûre, avant de pouvoir se projeter à long terme et mettre fin à ce fléau que représente la précarité énergétique, il convient d’agir sur le parc immobilier actuel. Bien entendu, il existe de premiers mécanismes qui permettent d’accéder à des aides pour faire évoluer son logement et mettre en place de premiers éléments pour lutter contre la précarité énergétique, mais il faut accélérer et surtout faire connaitre aux ménages leurs droits pour être accompagnés dans ces projets. Ce point est d’autant plus important pour les ménages précaires qui ne disposent pas toujours d’une bonne connaissance des possibilités qui leur sont offertes et qui se sentent souvent délaissés. Pourtant, faire isoler son habitation, déployer du matériel de chauffage, etc., sont autant de possibilités qui leurs sont offertes et auxquelles ils ont droit sans avoir à engager des ressources importantes. On ne peut que se féliciter de ces dispositifs soutenus par l’État, mais il faut aller encore plus loin pour les faire connaitre, faciliter leur accès aux plus démunis et lancer de nouvelles aides qui donneront un nouveau départ à la lutte contre la précarité énergétique. Au regard du plan de relance présenté ces derniers mois par le gouvernement et de l’urgence sociale qui s’exprime au quotidien dans notre pays nous devrions assister ces prochains mois à un véritable bigbang dans la lutte contre la précarité énergétique.
