UniteCT mobile van to help residents apply for rental, utility assistance next week
May 7—The UniteCT mobile van, which helps people sign up for rental and utility assistance, is scheduled to make six stops in southeastern Connecticut next Monday through Thursday.
On Monday, the van will be at St. Mary's Church, 70 Central Ave. in Norwich, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. On Tuesday, it will be at the Montville Senior Center, 12 Maple Ave., from 10 a.m. to noon and at the East Lyme Senior Center, 37 Society Road, from 1 to 3 p.m.
On Wednesday, it will be at Jennings Elementary School, 50 Mercer St. in New London, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Finally, on Thursday, the van will be at the Sprague Senior Center, 1 Main St., from 10 a.m. to noon and Windham No Freeze Project, 75 Bridge St., from 1 to 3 p.m.
Walk-ins are accepted but appointments will be prioritized. Registration for a half-hour slot is available at signupgenius.com/go/unitect. This link also includes a list of documents needed to apply.
UniteCT is a $235 million program providing rental and utility payment assistance to qualified households in Connecticut who have been financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Its stated purpose is to help stabilize the state's rental housing market, and it supports households making up to 80% of the area median income. People can view their city or town's AMI and apply by visiting portal.ct.gov/DOH/DOH/Programs/UniteCT.
The mobile van travels across the state to make sure people have access to technology to submit an application, with staff assisting. United Way of Southeastern Connecticut and the Department of Housing are bringing the program to the region.
