UND School of Medicine's annual 'Joggin' with Josh' event set for Thursday

Sep. 20—Dr. Joshua Wynne, UND vice president for health affairs and dean of the School of Medicine & Health Sciences, is hoping to get people out for a run at the 12th annual "Joggin' with Josh" event.

Each fall Wynne invites all UND students, faculty, staff and community members to advocate for healthful lifestyles by joining him on an informal 5K or 10K walk, jog, or run around the UND campus. The free event started in 2010. This year's outdoor event is tentatively set for 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 23.

"I'm looking forward to the event that is structured to allow as pandemic-safe conditions as possible," Wynne said. "I hope that we have a great turnout so that we can yet again demonstrate to the greater Grand Forks community that we mean what we say — that exercise is important and makes a difference."

Event organizers are being mindful of the ongoing pandemic. Participants will be asked to come to the east patio of the UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences for the event, and will receive a complimentary T-shirt upon arrival. Walkers and joggers need not congregate with a group for the walk/run and are encouraged to set out from the school on the designated path in a physically-distanced way.

People can register for the event upon arrival at the SMHS, or at the Joggin' with Josh website.

The event was held last year, but in an individual manner. People were encouraged to head out on a 5K or 10K walk or jog, take a photo and then share it on social media with #jogginwjosh.

All participants who share their photos with the hashtag will go into a drawing for a Garmin smartwatch.
