'Danger to life' warnings as heavy wind and rain set to lash parts of Britain at the weekend
Parts of Britain face severe weather this weekend, with forecasters putting ‘danger to life’ warnings in place.
Heavy wind and rain are set to arrive in northern parts of the UK, bringing potential travel chaos and a risk of floods, according to the Met Office.
Yellow weather warnings for wind and rain are active for Friday and Saturday in parts of Wales, northern England and parts of Scotland.
Strong winds are likely to affect roads and train lines, while heavy and persistent rain can provoke fast flowing or deep floodwater that can cause a danger to life.
The Met Office predict winds of up to 70mph in Wales and England on Friday night and Saturday, with 80mph possible in more exposed areas.

Scotland could also be hit with up to 100mm of rain in the same period, with gale force winds threatening to hit at the same time.
Temperatures reached 13C in southern areas on Wednesday and double figures are forecast across the region on Thursday.
The higher grounds of Scotland face temperatures of 0-1C, with snow expected to fall on northern hills.
Some southern areas are likely to hit by rain later on Thursday before clearing in southeastern areas by this evening.
While heavy wind and rain are predicted at the weekend, milder temperatures will come with it, with most of the country seeing the mercury hit around 11C.
The warnings come weeks after severe rain brought flooding to northern parts of England at the end of last year, resulting in the deaths of two people.
