UK weather: Flood warnings issued as heavy rain and winds strike Britain
Yellow flood warnings are in place across the UK as wind and heavy rain batter parts of the country in the run up to Christmas.
Recent bad weather in Northern Ireland, south-west England and Wales is set to continue over one of the busiest travel periods of the year.
South Yorkshire saw a month's rain fall in just 24 hours.
A yellow weather warning for strong winds stretching from south-western Scotland, Northern Ireland, and the west coast of England and Wales is in place until Friday morning.
The Met Office has warned drivers to beware of flash flooding and standing water with between 60mm and 90mm of rain falling before the end of the week.
The wind warning intersects a yellow rain warning covering all of Cornwall and the south of England that is in force until 12pm on Friday.
Further spells of heavy rain and showers are expected in Saturday and into Sunday with 10-15 mm and 20-30mm predicted in some areas.

Public transport will be affected with journey times taking longer.
The Met Office also warns of an increased chance of flooding on roads, and the possibility of homes and businesses being affected.
Met Office chief meteorologist Paul Gunderson thinks we could see a cold snap just in time for Christmas morning.
“At the moment there are signs for a drier, quieter spell of weather just in time for the Christmas period, with the potential for colder temperatures making things feel a little more festive.”
William Hill is offering odds on a white Christmas in various parts of the country.
Odds of snow on Christmas Day are 9/4 in Edinburgh, 3/1 in Newcastle and 6/1 in Liverpool and London. Penzance is at 12/1, while Birmingham is at 9/2.
