Mar. 4—UConn guard Paige Bueckers swept Big East Conference Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year honors Thursday morning, joining former Huskies great Maya Moore as the only two players in league history to complete that sweep.

UConn's Olivia Nelson-Ododa was named Co-Defensive Player of the Year by the league, which begins its postseason women's basketball tournament Friday at Mohegan Sun Arena and Freshman Aaliyah Edwards was named Sixth-Woman of the Year.

UConn coach Geno Auriemma was named Big East Coach of the Year, his 17th league coach of the year award.

Bueckers and Christyn Williams earned first team All-Big East honors and Nelson-Ododa was named to the second team. Bueckers and Edwards were named to the All-Freshman Team.

Bueckers, from Hopkins, Minnesota, leads UConn with 19.8 points, 6.2 assists and 2.4 steals per game, as well as shooting 47.6% from 3-point range. She was named Big East Freshman of the Week eight times and Player of the Week twice.

Also named to the All-Big East first team were Lexi Held and Sonya Morris (DePaul), Selena Lott (Marquette), Leilani Correa (St. John's), Desiree Elmore, Andra Espinoza-Hunter and Lauren Park Lane (Seton Hall) and Maddy Siegrist (Villanova).

Top-ranked and top-seeded UConn (21-1, 18-0) will play in the Big East tournament quarterfinals at noon Saturday.
