UCF cornerback Davonte Brown to enter transfer portal

UCF starting cornerback back Davonte Brown announced his intentions to enter the NCAA transfer portal Sunday night.

Brown was the third Knight to do so following UCF’s loss at Tulane in the American Athletic Conference championship.

He joins sophomore quarterback Mikey Keene and senior punter Andrew Osteen, who made their intentions clear earlier in the day.

“I want to thank my coaches for allowing me to showcase my talent and helping me grow into the player and person I am today,” Brown wrote on social media. “Thank you ‘Knight Nation’ for the last three years — I never thought I would have built so many great relationships.

“With that being said, I decided I will be entering my name in the transfer portal with two years of eligibility.”

The transfer portal officially opens Monday.

A junior from Plantation, Brown recorded 30 total tackles, finished second on the team with 2 interceptions and added 4 pass breakups while starting all 13 games for the Knights.

In Saturday’s conference championship against the Green Wave, Brown caught an interception and recorded 1 tackle.

As a sophomore last season, the 6-foot-2, 185-pound cornerback started every game for UCF while leading the team with 13 pass breakups. He finished the season with 38 tackles, 1 sack, 2 tackles for loss, and 1 interception.

Brown played 10 games as a freshman in 2020 while earning five starts at cornerback. He recorded 23 tackles, 1 tackle for loss and 1 pass breakup that year.

A South Florida native, Brown attended American Heritage High School.
