U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell's Dearborn office was broken into and vandalized, she said Monday, with a window being broken and memorabilia inside smashed.

The office, in a complex at 19855 W. Outer Drive in Dearborn, was one Dingell has used since being elected in 2014 and was previously used by her husband, the late Rep. John Dingell, D-Dearborn.

No one was at the office at the time.

Dingell, a Democrat who got into a shouting match with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Georgia, when Greene in September disrupted an event outside the U.S. Capitol, told the Free Press she believed the incident at her office happened earlier Monday.

"I was just beginning to feel comfortable again," Dingell said.

A recent fire at the building had required work to be done so the office was closed. But Dingell said someone had gone by the office on Friday and it had not been vandalized then.

She said someone went there on Monday and saw the damage, with a plate glass window smashed and objects taken off the walls and smashed.

Dingell reported the incident to U.S. Capitol Police and Dearborn police.

The incident comes at a time when partisan division in Washington has been high. Two weeks ago, the House voted on a sweeping social spending plan that Republicans adamantly oppose but may be unable to block from passage.

Meanwhile, the House censured U.S. Rep. Paul Gosar, R-Arizona, after he posted an anime video on social media that showed him killing U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-New York, and attacking President Joe Biden. Gosar said nothing hateful was intended by the video.

U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minnesota, has asked House leadership to take action against U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colorado, after Boebert made Islamophobic insults toward Omar at a campaign event.
