Tyrese Maxey receives praise after Sixers begin trip by beating Spurs

The Philadelphia 76ers continued their winning ways on Friday with a 137-125 road win over the San Antonio Spurs. They received a big boost from the all-bench lineup, led by Tyrese Maxey and Shake Milton, and their play gave the Sixers the boost they needed to win.

Maxey had 25 points and Milton had 14 off the bench in support of Joel Embiid who had 33 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Sixers.

Maxey, especially, had a breakout night after shooting poorly in the previous two games against the Orlando Magic. In the win over the Spurs, Maxey shot 8-for-15, and he knocked down three triples on four attempts. It was a needed performance for him.

“Like I said, I wasn’t that concerned,” coach Doc Rivers told reporters. “He played great. He played downhill a lot and was the aggressor a lot and that’s what we need. Him and Shake, I tell you when they come in the game, you better get their feet ready because they both are aggressive and they’re going downhill.”

The bench unit, as a whole, was a huge part of the win on Friday. Maxey and Milton did a really good job of getting downhill and they also received 13 points out of Georges Niang.

“That’s what I need from them,” Harden added Maxey and the bench unit to reporters. “Consistently, they run those sets. What that unit is about is to get stops. If we get stops, we give ourselves a chance to get out in transition. They did a really good job of handling business.”

Philadelphia will continue the road trip on Sunday against the New York Knicks.
