Two shot outside West St. Paul gas station on Sunday night

Dec. 6—Police from nearby cities were called in to help with crowd control as West St. Paul officers investigated the shooting of a man and woman outside a Mendota Road gas station Sunday night.

Investigators and medics were called to the report of a shooting at the Marathon Gas station at 433 E. Mendota Road at 8:48 p.m. Sunday. When officers arrived, they found a woman with a gunshot wound to her lower body and a man with multiple gunshot wounds, according to a statement from police.

Both were taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. The woman's injuries were not believed to be life threatening. The man underwent surgery; his current condition is unknown. Police have not released the names of the injured.

Police believe the man and woman were targeted by the shooter. No arrest had been made, officials said.

While officers were trying to secure the area and provide medical attention to the man and woman, a large group of bystanders gathered, interrupted investigators and refused to leave the scene. At one point members of the group tried to take control of a vehicle that one of the wounded occupied, the statement said.

Officers from the surrounding communities of South St. Paul, Inver Grove Heights, Mendota Heights, Eagan, Washington County, Cottage Grove, Woodbury, State Patrol and St. Paul police departments responded to help with crowd control.
