Two people dead in crash near Salem, South Dakota Highway Patrol confirms

Two people died in an early morning fatal crash near Salem, according to the South Dakota Highway Patrol.

The crash happened near Salem on Tuesday around 7:15 a.m., when two vehicles collided with each other on Highway 38, Tony Mangan, spokesperson for the South Dakota Highway Patrol, said.

A 22-year-old woman driving a 2007 Mercury Milan and a 60-year-old man driving a 1999 Toyota Camry were pronounced dead at the scene, according to Mangan. Neither were wearing seat belts.

There were no passengers in the car, Mangan said.

The identities of the deceased were not released pending family notification, Mangan said.
