Two killed in shooting outside Columbus Near East Side apartment building

Two males were killed in a shooting Tuesday evening in front of a Near East Side apartment complex, Columbus police said.

Around 6:30 p.m., police responded to a report of gunshots in the 1000 block of Atcheson Street, Deputy Chief Smith Weir said.

Responding officers found two males with gunshot wounds were found in front of Mount Vernon Plaza, an independent living community for seniors, Weir said.

The two males were both pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities were not released as of mid-afternoon Wednesday, but they were listed on a police press release as males between the ages of 15 and 25.

Weir said the circumstances that led to the shooting are under investigation. Police believe at least one male suspect, possibly wearing jeans, shot the victims and fled from the scene.

Woman shot in March succumbs to injuries

A South Side woman died on Sept. 26 from injuries she sustained in a March shooting. Her death has since been ruled a homicide by the Franklin County Coroner's office.

Elizabeth Brice, 27, was found with gunshot wounds around 10:35 p.m. on March 26 in the garage of a home on the 100 block of North Harris Avenue, in the city's Hilltop neighborhood.

Police were able to determine that Brice had been behind a home in the area and was shot two times. Brice then fell into the garage of the home where she was found.

She was taken to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center in critical condition, but was initially expected to survive her injuries. However, she succumbed to her injuries on Sept. 26 and her death was a ruled a homicide the following day.

Police have not identified any suspects or motive in her death.

Victim in critical condition following Northeast Side shooting

Police also were searching for a suspect vehicle following a shooting Tuesday afternoon on the city's Northeast Side that sent a victim to the hospital in critical condition.

Around 5:35 p.m., police responded to the intersection of Morse Road and Karl Road on the report of a shooting. Police discovered a male victim who had been shot in the face in his vehicle.

The victim, who has not been identified by police, was transported in critical condition to a local hospital, police said.

An alert issued to Columbus police said the suspect, who was wearing a mask, fled in a black Chevy Impala.

Detectives investigating potentially life-threatening shooting at South Side apartment

Police are also investigating the shooting of a person at a South Side apartment that is considered to be potentially life-threatening.

Around 11:10 p.m. Tuesday, police were called to the Skyview Townhomes complex on the 600 block of East Morrill Avenue, on the city's South Side, and found a person with at least one gunshot wound. The 25-year-old man was found in a courtyard area.

The townhome complex is located less than a block away from the Columbus police property room, located on Woodrow Avenue.

That person, who has not yet been identified, was taken to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center in life-threatening condition. Another man, 25, was also found with gunshot wounds, but is expected to survive his injuries.

Police said the two victims were in an altercation of some kind with a third man prior to the shooting. The third man fled the scene before officers arrived.

Homicide detectives are leading the investigation because of the severity of the injuries for one of the victims.
