Two couples displaced in house fire

Sep. 17—The cause of an early morning house fire remains under investigation.

Around midnight Thursday, a passerby notified authorities that the residence at 425 S. Cicott St. was on fire.

Assistant Chief Matt Harris of the Logansport Fire Department said there was "heavy fire damage to the rear of the residence."

Two couples were occupying the home, and all four individuals made it to safety, he said, adding that no animals were inside the structure.

In addition to the rear damage, the entire two-story house sustained smoke and water damage, said Harris. The structure was not a total loss, he said, and it could eventually be repaired.

For now, though, the American Red Cross has provided shelter for the couples at a local hotel, Harris said.

Firefighters were on scene for 5 1/2 hours. Fire Investigator Rusty Logan will continue to determine the cause.

Along with the fire department, the Logansport Police Department and Phoenix Ambulance Service responded to the call.
